SGIA wants to help you keep your workplace safe with the recently updated Right-to- Know Training Program. The Right To Know program is designed to help specialty graphic imaging company owners, managers and employees receive training and comply with training requirements of the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Hazard Communication Standard and its personal protective equipment (PPE) training requirements.
The program is now available on DVD with both English and Spanish language options, and provides an introduction to the potential hazards of chemical products found in a typical screen or dgitial facility. Along with being tailored to the specialty imaging industry, the new Right-to-Know training program provides:
| • |
An introduction to the potential hazards of chemical products used in the industry |
| • |
Explanations of material safety data sheets and chemical warning labels |
| • |
A number of pertinent definitions |
| • |
Specific plant situations which illustrate the use of chemical products |
| • |
Recommended personal protective equipment and clothing to be used in safeguarding employee health and safety |
| |
|
| The program also includes: |
| • |
Instructor's Guide |
| • |
A transcription of OSHA's Hazard Communications Standard |
| • |
Employee Guides English/Spanish versions |
| • |
Pre/post tests to determine the quality of employee training and reference materials |
| • |
Personal protection equipment training highlights |
The program takes approximately 30 minutes to present, and managers are urged to allow additional time for answering questions from employees, administering the pre/post test, and outlining situations specific to the individual company.
Why Train?
Your US employees have a right to know about any hazardous chemical products they may use, or come in contact with, in your shop. Under OSHA regulations, owners have a legal obligation to train employees in identifying and handling chemicals safely. It is also required that they be trained in the proper use of personal protective equipment.
SGIA has produced this unique training program specifically to help you accomplish these goals and fulfill many of your compliance obligations.
The program narration is written for employees of average intelligence and a high-school education, and concentrates on presenting basic concepts, rather than detailed, scientific discussion. It is intended to become an integral part of a company's own hazard communication/PPE program, which is required by OSHA of all industry employers. The employee guide provides a helpful summary of right-to-know/hazard communication information terms that can be taken home or kept in a locker.
Note: The DVD program and materials are designed to assist with OSHA compliance. Additional training must be given by the employer to achieve full compliance with federal or state regulations. |
