Perfecting Processes

Registrants were able to choose from 51 educational sessions to help perfect their processes and give their customers total solutions. Ranging from Future Forums on High Production Inkjet Printing and Corporate Sustainability to hands-on screen printing workshops — attendees left SGIA ’08 with the ideas, tools and resources to create superior prints.

Education for Specialty Imagers
The educational program at SGIA ’08 offered critical industry knowledge for every SGIA attendee, speaking to a wide variety of specialty imaging applications for novices and experts alike. The program’s direct presentations by industry experts, thought-provoking panel discussions, and hands-on workshops for garment decorators made the Expo an ideal learning environment.

“The educational program served as an excellent opportunity to learn deeper, more robust knowledge about new and existing technologies and markets. It was a critical component to the broader SGIA ’08 experience,” said Dan Marx, SGIA’s Vice President of Markets & Technology.

Mixing and Mingling, SGIA-Style
The Keynote Luncheon
The Keynote Luncheon began with a sit-down lunch attended by the leaders in the industry. Kent Yunker and Carl Baldwin, Outgoing and Incoming SGIA Chairman, respectively, and Don Marsden, ASPT Chairman, announced several winners of various awards — honoring those that have dedicated time and energy to the betterment of the industry.

Doug Tatum, author of No Man’s Land, and Bo Burlingham, author of Small Giants, also took the stage at the Luncheon to discuss how entrepreneurs could grow their businesses successfully.
“I’ve seen very good companies grow themselves into a fatal designation I call ‘no man’s land,’” Tatum said at the Keynote Luncheon.

Friday Night Dinner Party
SGIA’s Friday Night Dinner Party created an informal networking event for attendees with plenty of time to have a cocktail, meet new colleagues, or catch up with old friends.

There was good food, good conversations and even plenty of entertainment from an unlikely source, when Chairmen Kent Yunker and Carl Baldwin took the stage.

From the initial stumbling over the words “SGIA ‘08” and the swearing off of the script, to a live-on-stage(d) phone call to Yunker’s wife, followed by the presentation of the Chairman’s pin (which Yunker held high over Baldwin to highlight their difference in height) the laughter in the room and among the community was contagious.

Specialty Imaging Rock Stars
Among the many awards given during SGIA ’08, the 2008 Innovator Award and the 2008 Howard Howard Parmele Award are among the most prestigious for the specialty imaging industry.

This year, the coveted Innovator Award was presented at the Keynote Luncheon to James Gandy of Gandinnovations for actively moving the digital imaging industry forward.
And the Friday Night Dinner Party was capped off when Yunker announced the Parmele award winners, Co-owners and brothers, Ben and David Landesman of Lawson Screen & Digital Products Inc. (St. Louis, Missouri).

SGIA also awarded the Golden Image/Andre Schellenberg winners while at the show, and named the Product of the Year devices.
